Argentinian labour market 2020

A change in government will, without doubt, shake the local labour market. Starting from December 1st 2019, there are going to be a lot of executives that were filling in posts in public administration who will be available for the private sector. Nowadays, there are a lot of queries and questioning, but there is still not an actual shift from public to private activity. This can be seen specially in bottom to middle line officials. The crisis does not facilitate that reintegration, which is slower and more uncertain than we wish for.

Even though most industries seem affected by the crisis, there are some markets that have an increasing dynamism. Particularly when it comes to IT industries, with a special focus on fintech. This industry is always generating new Jobs and the supply is higher than the demand.

Regarding executive positions, without doubt, 2020’s star will be financial administration. On the other hand, big companies are leaning towards digital transformation, and requiring executives skilled on agile methodologies and a strong technological stamp for their entire management, not exclusively for IT positions.

When recruiting for senior positions, there are two processes that happen simultaneously: on one hand you search for young executives, who have a technological mindset (for all areas, from HR to business) and who can carry out a digital transformation in their areas. On the other hand, you search for experienced executives who have a knack for crisis management.

Gender parity also has a growing presence. Even though there are still many industries – and companies in particular – that look at it from the side, change in this direction has already started, and nowadays all organizations have a stablished female middle line and ready to face new challenges.

In terms of age diversity, in moments of crisis, 50+ - with many crisis in their past – have very valuable experience to provide in companies’ boards. Their experience is required and valued.

Tech companies do not stay behind: in these businesses or those where highly skilled technical knowledge is the core, there is also an interesting look over +50s o even post retirement. Be that from a place of “reconversion” to new technologies, or as a way to maintain, create and communicate a highly specialized knowledge throughout the organization.

Furthermore, millennials have more stardom in dynamic industries, not regulated. Millennials are more present in technology, communications, media, industries that can offer them a work experience according to their values and style.
